Great Basin Colossus
Schulman Grove-Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, California
One of the oldest trees on planet earth at over 4,000 years. Bristlecones live in a world that is for trees only and when one walks here he or she is a visitor. However, don't forget the hard white granite (dolomite) that provides them with the conditions they thrive on. Bristlecones prefer to grow on northeast facing slopes and this condition subjects them to high velocity winds especially in winter. Photo © copyright by Frank LeBlanc.
