View of Death Valley

Death Valley National Park

Although Death Valley has many features which characterize "desert" it is not actually a desert, but is a great valley formed by uplifting of tectonic plates called "Graben." This picture of Death Valley was taken from Augereberry point which overlooks the valley from over 6,000 feet and in the foreground are examples of these tectonic plates, or "Graben." It could be hard to imagine the forces which nature employed in forming Death Valley over millions of years. Photo © copyright by Frank LeBlanc.
